"99 LINES"

A complex and abstract piece that highlights delusion, repetition, and persistence. Based on my history with delusions of the number nine as my mind fell further into the mental challenges of bipolar disorder. I wanted to create something that followed strict rules, with a predictable and easily replicable result, if the instructions were followed correctly. This is a key to this composition. I followed strict rules throughout many pieces related to the number nine including repetition of the number, and using measurements that coincide with the number. I wanted the people who partake in the creation of this composition to feel lost, and confused, and question why they are doing it. This is in contrast to how I felt when doing these things, and what I imagine people would probably think of it if they followed these rules without the delusions that created them.
Instructions: on a preferred sized canvas, draw a straight, 9 inch long line (using a ruler), with a tool of your choice, preferably pencil or black pen. Draw these lines at random intervals across the canvas. For every 9th line drawn, cut the line into the paper using an Xacto knife. Try to maintain the integreity of the paper, and avoid cutting holes. If you sense a pattern forming, then try to elaborate on the pattern. Or you can chose to ignore it and proceed as nothing happened. Persist until you have drawn a total of 99 lines across the canvas, or are unable to continue, at which point, cease the project.
This can be completed alone, or you may choose any amount of people to help if you think that will make it easier. There is no time estimate.
